Top Three Main Cast Characters–Outside of the Main Protagonist

Hello all you wonderful people! I’m back with another post!

This time: Three of my favorite main cast characters outside of the main protagonist. Yeah! That means: no Hinata (Haikyuu!!), no Emma (The Promised Neverland)….okay, I think you get it. Let’s hop into this shall we?

  1. Going off the first series I listed above……NISHINOYA! Yeah. This guy is my freaking spirit animal I swear. He’s crazy, he’s outgoing, he’s supportive, but most of all, he has a connection to his teammates that I think makes him absolutely amazing. Yeah, he had a monologue during the anime, but even his growth as a character after his introduction was great. He was first told as a trouble maker who kept getting suspended from school, but I think that had to do more with his relationship to Asahi and the volleyball team than anything. He even said that if Asahi wasn’t going to play then he wasn’t going to play, either. Anyway, Nishinoya has a connection with the third years, the other second years, and even our first year duo of Hinata and Kageyama. He’s an all around good guy! And um….did anyone read the latest chapter of Haikyuu!! or was that just me? NOYA IS A FREAKING BEAST!! *ROLLING THUNDER!! AGAIN!*

  2. NOTE: THE PICTURE BELOW IS A SPOILER FROM CHAPTER 135 OF THE MANGA!!!!!
    1. This next one may be a bit odd, because it sort of seems like he’s a main character, but the story is really not his. Ray from The Promised Neverland. What can I say about Ray? Well, he’s basically a genius, but he cares about his friends and family more than most people. He’s thoughtful about how the Grace Field House is going to complete their tasks throughout the series, he carefully plans each move he makes in order to minimize stress. Now, what I will say about Ray, though, is that in some instances he’s a bit too preoccupied with his own thoughts and trying to hard to accomplish his goal that he doesn’t see the benefit in other people’s decisions. While he lets others speak their minds, it’s almost as if he’s reluctant to test any theory that may not yield the result he’s looking for. Well…until recently in the manga. Anyway, I love Ray enough to put him in this top three!

      So protective, so amazing….
  3. This final choice might be one that doesn’t come as a surprise to some, but my third choice for main cast character that is not the main protagonist is Levi from Attack on Titan. Do I really need to say much about Levi? He’s humanities strongest soldier, he’s willing to do what others won’t in order to keep humanity alive. While he does have some flaws (like his insane loyalty to Erwin), I think that Levi is a fantastic main cast character with a somewhat confusing, but intriguing backstory in his relationship to Kenny (the Interior Police guy), which made the first half of season 3 in the anime amazing–it was humans vs humans in a human vs titan world. What could be worse than humans fighting humans when they’re on the brink of extinction? Nothing. And there’s his fighting prowess, his logical thinking and understanding of where the Scout Regiment is operating, failing, succeeding, and everything else that comes with his position as captain. They even have a special squad for him called the Levi Squad! Come on…he’s amazing.

    Love the captain!!

And there you have it! I know, I know, not the most amazing picks, but I think these three characters all have something to give in their respective worlds, and they’re all there supporting the MC and making sure the MC doesn’t do anything too ridiculous. Well, maybe two of the three because Nishinoya is a trouble maker and ridiculous in his own regard.

Who are some of your favorite non-MC characters in anime or manga? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Its so hard to pick a favorite in The Promised Neverland. Ray has so many amazing qualities, Emma seems like the typical shonen protagonist but is in reality so much more than that, and Norman is such a badass genious character

    1. It was hard for me even after considering Emma the main protagonist and not being able to choose her. I struggled between Ray and Norman for a while, but since I’ve read the manga and obviously know the story by now with the anime involved I had to go with Ray for….reasons. (No more spoilers from me outside that picture!)

      1. I also got into the manga and am now waiting for my volume 10 to arrive. Still can’t really decide between Ray and Norman.
