Hello all you wonderful people! I hope you’re doing well!
The Round 1 results of the Anime Song Tournament have officially been tallied and the winners have moved on to their respective positions in the bracket! The losers, sadly, have gone home with their tails between their legs crying.
Now, I will say this: some of our first round matches were tight while others were blow-out wins.
Let’s take a look at the bracket! I would give a screenshot of the bracket to show green and yellow bars for the winners and losers, but that’s too much of a hassle for me right now.
TOP HALF:
Match 1: “Hikari Are” (Haikyuu!!) vs “found & lost” (Banana Fish)–a fairly close match-up, one which I had an extremely hard time putting together because I would love to see both of these songs in the finals, but alas, “Hikari Are” beat “found & lost”. Hurray, BURNOUT SYNDROMES??? Tally: 7-5 “Hikari Are” of Haikyuu!! advances.
Match 2: “Red Swan” (Attack on Titan) vs “Naru” (Tsurune)–this match-up wasn’t even close. Forget how stunning Tsurune’s final episode was, forget how the show did during its seasonal run. Attack on Titan’s “Red Swan” beat “Naru” in a landslide. I should probably keep my feelings about AoT out of this one, right? Tally: 9-3 “Red Swan” of Attack on Titan advances.
Match 3: “Lily” (Bungo Stray Dogs) vs “Crossing Field” (Sword Art Online)–another landslide victory. SAO’s “Crossing Field” demolished Bungo Stray Dogs’ “Lily” and honestly I saw this one coming despite wanting “Lily” to pull an upset. There’s just something about SAO’s first OP… Tally: 11-4 “Crossing Field” advances.
Match 4: “Merry-Go-Round of Life” (Howl’s Moving Castle) vs “Strength” (Soul Eater)–An extremely close match-up that went in favor of Howl’s Moving Castle! This is one that I wasn’t quite sure about because I love both of these songs, and seeing the number of votes this match-up got I was curious to see who pulled out the win. Tally: 7-6 “Merry-Go-Round of Life” advances.
BOTTOM HALF:
Match 1: “Here” (The Ancient Magus Bride) vs “Kiss of Death” (Darling in the Franxx)–I wasn’t sure who was going to win this. Considering my own bias toward The Ancient Magus Bride, but enjoying “Kiss of Death” more, I was conflicted (lucky I didn’t get to vote, huh?) and didn’t know how the tallies would turn out. With a close call, “Kiss of Death” pulled out the win after 15 total votes. Tally: 8-7 “Kiss of Death” advances.
Match 2: “Setsuna no Ai” (Bungo Stray Dogs) vs “Nandemonaiya” (Your Name)–Okay, I’m not even going to talk about this one except to say this: I KNEW IT WOULD BE CLOSE!!! I love both of these songs more than anyone will know, but in the end “Setsuna no Ai” pulled out another close match with fifteen total votes! Tally: 8-7 “Setsuna no Ai” advances.
Match 3: “Rodeo” (Fairy Gone) vs “Yume Tourou” (Your Name)–Are we going to see both songs from Your Name suffer defeat? Or, do not enough people know and like this song from Fairy Gone? Well, as it turns out, I think the popularity of Your Name’s soundtrack did its job in this match. “Yume Tourou” beats “Rodeo”… Tally: 8-5 “Yume Tourou” advances.
Match 4: “Haruka Kanata” (Naruto) vs “Kawakiwoameku” (Domestic Girlfriend)–Okay, this one was a match-up where I knew the winner beforehand, but I enjoy “Kawakiwoameku” enough to put it in this tournament. It’s not a horrible song, but going up against “Haruka Kanata” of Naruto? In a solid showing, “Haruka Kanata” beats “Kawakiwoameku”… Tally: 7-4 “Haruka Kanata” advances.
The Round Two fixtures for this tournament are set:
Match 1: “Hikari Are” vs “Red Swan”
Match 2: “Crossing Field” vs “Merry-Go-Round of Life”
Match 3: “Kiss of Death” vs “Setsuna no Ai”
Match 4: “Yume Tourou” vs “Haruka Kanata”

Are these the results you were hoping for? Did one or multiple songs you voted for lose? This second round will last for a week, so as of now it has just under seven days remaining. Who will come out on top in round two? You decide!
And once again, thank you to all who voted in round one! This wouldn’t have been possible without your participation!
Thanks for reading!
